As greater focus is placed on Scope 3 emissions as a source of carbon risk, real estate fund managers are increasingly looking at their value chains and operations to identify where these emissions arise, and how they can be managed.

Typically, one of the greatest sources of Scope 3 emissions for real estate funds relates to energy use by occupiers. This can be a challenging area to decarbonise, or even to benchmark current performance, with commons issues around access to data, successful occupier engagement and limited standardisation of ‘green’ leases. In the case of long lease funds, with even more limited visibility and control, these challenges can be exacerbated further.

In this joint event from AREF & Better Buildings Partnership (BBP), a panel of speakers will consider the scale of the challenge in managing Scope 3 tenant emissions, what the key enablers are to progress, and what a successful tenant emissions management strategy looks like in different real estate fund contexts. We will hear from speakers representing the BBP and AREF memberships and occupiers, and through a panel discussion, explore questions and solutions from participants.

Speakers include:

  • Moderator: Sam Carson, Head of Sustainability, Valuations & Advisory Services at CBRE
  • Adam Baranowski, Climate Change Programme Lead at Better Buildings Partnership
  • Frankie Demetriades, Associate Director ESG at Fiera Real Estate
  • Oliver Light, Principal Director, Direct of Real Estate at Carbon Intelligence/Accenture
  • Matthew Liquorish, EHS Manager - Polymers & UK Composites, Meggit
  • Laura Noctor-King, Head of Sustainability, Better Buildings Partnership
