We are delighted to announce the winners of the AREF Annual Awards 2022!

The AREF Annual Awards 2022 were presented by Adrian Benedict our Chairman at the AREF Annual Dinner, held at The Savoy Hotel last night and sponsored by Aztec Group

Now in their 11th year, the awards recognise achievement and contribution by our members and others who support the work of AREF.

The winners of the 2022 AREF Awards are:

Affiliate of the Year

Winner: CBRE

CBRE were nominated for all their help this year, in particular to: Kasia Dziewulska for planning and hosting the 'Real Estate Around the Globe' podcast series; Sam Carson (pictured left) for his continued support on the ESG & Social Impact Committee and CBRE's PropertyMatch, for their support of the quarterly events specifically aimed at Investors.

Nominees included:

Investors' Award for Outstanding Achievement

Winner:  PATRIZIA Hanover Property Unit Trust

Mischa Davies (pictured left) Fund Manager, accepted the award, judged by a panel of AREF Investor Members.

Those shortlisted included:

  • Airport Industrial Property Unit Trust (abrdn)
  • Blackrock UK Property Fund
  • Octopus Healthcare Fund
  • Triton Property Fund (UBS)

 

AREF Research Award

Winner: PATRIZIA for their report on 'Optimising the value of institutional real estate portfolios with machine learning – A Hedonic Machine Learning Approach’ (click here to view the winning report). 

The judging panel, led by Jonathan Bayfield (pictured right) of Aviva Investors, all agreed that this was a very innovative and topical research paper. Indeed, the panel had not seen these types of methods presented before and were encouraged by the author’s self-critique too Marcelo Cajias (centre). In the future, this paper may be seen as the start of a new era of real estate research (click here to view the winning report).

Special mention goes to Aviva Investors for their innovative approach to assessing relative value by compare return and risk across European Real Assets (inc UK property) on a consistent, forward-looking basis.

  • AEW for two reports: 'Report on how granular loan-by-loan data can offer more precise insights than other survey based sources’ - Sept 21 and 'European outlook report incorporating for the first time the climate transition risk premium’ - Nov 21
  • Aviva Investors Real Assets Inhouse View
  • LGIM ‘Operational Real Estate, The Practicalities' – Jan 22
  • UBS ‘Unlocking Social Impact Real Estate with UK Life Sciences’ – May 22.


Outstanding Individual Contribution

Winner: Ann Xu, CBRE Investment Management 

Ann sits on the FutureGen Committee, the ESG & Impact Investment Committee and the D&I Taskforce and was nominated for her exemplary contributions to all these committees this year and throughout her involvement. She brings enthusiasm and energy, and has made a huge difference to each committee so far.
