As urban expansion continues, the imperative to "build, build, build" must be balanced with sustainable and regenerative solutions. This webinar brings together thought leaders to explore how Doughnut Economics and the principles of the circular economy can be integrated into the built environment, fostering cities that respect both social and planetary boundaries.

We welcome Lianne Hulsebosch, from the City of Amsterdam who will share the city's Climate Action Plan, as well as Chris Brown, who will discuss London's approach, including insights from the "London Doughnut City Portrait - Edition One" and Alice Teboul, from Columbia Threadneedle and who sits on the AREF ESG & II Committee, will offer a real estate ESG perspective on fostering thriving cities. The session will be moderated by Melville Rodrigues of Apex Group, who will guide the session.

Speaker biographies:

Chris Brown

Managing Director, Climatise

Chris Brown is Managing Director of Climatise and co-founder of the London Doughnut Economy Coalition.

With collaborators, Chris spearheaded the launch of the igloo regeneration fund, managed by Aviva Investors, over 20 years ago. This was described by the United Nations as “the world’s first responsible real estate fund” and is underpinned by the internationally acclaimed sustainable investment policy.

Chris is also senior board adviser to Nationwide Building Society on climate change and the built environment and senior sustainability adviser to Lloyds Bank’s Housing Growth Partnership.

He is also a director of; community benefit society SE1 Solar, retrofit innovator Future Fit Homes, the London Doughnut Economy Coalition and a trustee of the North Wales Wildlife Trust.

Lianne Hulsebosch

Sustainable Urban Development Strategist, City of Amsterdam

Lianne is the connector of knowledge, first point of contact and driving force for the implementation of the sustainability ambitions of the municipality of Amsterdam. Particularly active for the IJburg phase II Amsteram projects: Buiteneiland and Strandeiland.

Melville Rodrigues

Head – Real Estate Advisory, Apex Group

Melville's practice focuses on the launch and operation of funds, including funds which hold underlying real estate investments in the UK as well as internationally. The funds have attracted institutional, private and retail investors.

In addition to servicing clients, he has been involved in representing industry bodies in their dialogue with the Treasury and the FCA. He is a regular contributor to the real estate press. Melville is the honorary legal adviser to the London Doughnut Economy Coalition.

Alice Teboul

ESG Manager - Property Investments, Columbia Threadneedle Investments

Alice is ESG Manager at Columbia Threadneedle Investments for its Real Estate (EMEA) division, working hand in hand with the Head of Sustainability (Real Estate EMEA).
Prior to this, she worked as senior analyst at Longevity Partners, a consulting firm dedicated to decarbonise real estate. As part of her work with Longevity Partners, Alice also worked as secondee at Tristan Capital Partners, acting as Sustainability Advisor. Prior to orienting her career in the real estate industry that she is passionate about, Alice worked as a Contractor at the United Nations Environment Programme (Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity) in Montreal, Canada. Alice holds a Master of Science (MSc) from the London School of Economics and Political Science in Environment and Development, and a Bachelor degree from McGill University in International Development with Economics focus and Communications.
