The AREF Mentorship Scheme
How it works
- Please register your interest by completing the form here.
- We will be in touch to confirm or create your biography and ask your preference regarding the number of Mentors you'd like to connect with throughout the year.
- Mentor biographies will be added to our Available Mentors page here.
- Mentees can browse through the available Mentors and complete the form on the page to select Mentors they'd like to be connected with - we recommend selecting at least two, in case your first choice is no longer available. AREF Mentees can also browse through CREFCE's list of Mentors here.
- Once connected via email through us, Mentors and Mentees can schedule meetings at their convenience.
- It will be for Mentor/Mentee pairs to agree goals and define expectations for the relationship, including whether to make the connection a one-off or long-term relationship.
- During the mentoring session, career advice may be offered, but mentors are not responsible for helping mentees with job searches and the programme should not be used for sales or recruitment.
Tips for a successful Mentorship session:
- Get the session locked into each other's calendar as soon as possible.
- Before the meeting - outline topics for the upcoming session and touch on shared professional interests.
- Be prepared - think of questions you might ask, topics of interest you can both talk about etc.
- Be fully present - set aside daily pressures during mentoring sessions so you can give the most and get the most from the experience.
