The Association has made a small number of awards since 2011 to recognise achievement and contribution, by our members and others who support the work of AREF.
The purpose, selection criteria and selection process for the awards are set out below:
Performance: 5-year, risk-adjusted, relative return
Independently calculated by IPD, this award is for the Fund that has produced the best risk-adjusted return over a 5-year period to the end of the second quarter, relative to the AREF/IPD UK Quarterly Property Fund Index (UK PFI).
Performance: 5-year, risk-adjusted, absolute return
To recognise an increasing cohort of Funds that participate in the UK PFI but have a return objective that is independent of it. Again independently calculated by IPD, this award is for the Fund that has produced the best risk-adjusted return over a 5-year period to the end of the second quarter, in absolute terms.
A central tenet of AREF’s philosophy, and a key element of our Code of Practice, is a requirement for transparency of reporting. This award is based upon Code compliance reviews carried out by the AREF secretariat during the year. These reviews cover both new member funds and a varied sample of existing funds. The final selection of the nominees and winner is carried out with the support of members of our Investor Committee to whom we extend our grateful thanks.
Affiliate of the Year
This award recognises the invaluable support many of our Affiliate member firms provide to the association in a variety of ways. Although this is often manifest through the efforts of one or two individuals, the award is to the firm as a whole, recognising the background support that the individual representatives can draw on. The award is judged on a number of measures, such as significant activity in a key area, hosting of events, or consistent contribution to our affairs over a long period. The selection of nominees and winner is done with input from our Management Committee, the Chairs of specialist committees and working groups, and from our Secretariat.
Outstanding Individual Contribution
This is a discretionary award, decided by the Board, which is not necessarily made each year, but is awarded to an individual who has gone the extra mile in terms of their personal involvement in our affairs and their commitment to the evolution of the association and the industry.
