Deborah Lloyd set to become Chair of the Association of Real Estate Funds
The Association of Real Estate Funds (AREF) has appointed Deborah Lloyd to its Board, with the intention that she will succeed David Wise as Chairman from January 2017. Deborah is widely known and respected in the industry from many years as a funds lawyer at Nabarro as well as her time on the Management Board of INREV. She is currently a member of both AREF’s Management Committee and its Corporate Governance Committee.
David Wise, Chairman of AREF, said:
“The real estate funds industry has already been evolving rapidly over the last few years but the result of the EU Referendum will undoubtedly add further complexity, as has already been seen in the experiences of funds available to retail investors. In the meantime AREF has also changed significantly, in diversifying both its membership and its Board and Committee representation, as well as strengthening its governance activities. The Board therefore felt that it was the right time to introduce a further perspective as we enter the next stage of our evolution and I am confident that Deborah’s background and experience will give us that.”
Deborah Lloyd commented:
“I am delighted to be part of the AREF team and look forward to being able to use my experience to contribute to the development and evolution of AREF, particularly at this challenging time. We have already been heavily engaged in helping member funds through the initial, pre- and post-Referendum, period and we look forward to working with them and the regulator to ensure that investors are still able to confidently access this important asset class whilst being protected by appropriate regulation.”
